remote worker

Welcome back to the wandering worker series! So far, we’ve discussed quite a bit about things you can do to make the most out of your remote worker experience. But there’s one thing we haven’t discussed yet: embracing the remote worker lifestyle. This blog will be all about embracing the freedom of remote work. Ready to be empowered?

Freedom or Office Coffee?

Listen, we get it. Working from home can get overwhelming. As humans, we have become used to constantly working around other people (whether we like it or not) but being a remote worker doesn’t mean becoming a hermit. Instead, achieving just the right work-life balance is a great opportunity.

Working from home gives you an amount of freedom that is simply not achievable when working in an office.

For most, the pre-remote work life meant long commutes back and forth, short lunch breaks, and not enough time to unwind after the office. This meant that having a life outside of work was strictly a task for the weekends (if you have weekends off). So, how has working from home changed this? Let me explain.

You are most likely working the same hours and working just as hard. But the time you save yourself when staying at home is significant; let me list a few examples:

  • No more commuting means time for yourself before and after work.
  • A remote work schedule tends to be more flexible. Some remote employers even allow you to set your own hours. But even if you have a strict schedule, working from home allows you to work at your own pace.
  • Working from home also gives you the opportunity for a healthier lifestyle. You can get in a workout, prepare yummy meals, and prioritize self-care without the constraints of a traditional office setting.

By having more control over your time and surroundings, you can achieve a better work-life balance, leading to a less-stressed life and overall well-being. Oh, and btw going back to that first paragraph in this section, remote working doesn’t mean you are now working alone. You and your teammates can work as much or even more as a team. You’ll get what we mean in a sec.

Alright, Freedom it Is, But…How?

So, yeah, we agree working from home isn’t for everyone. You need to have your head in the game, but also, with the right tips and tricks, you can make the most out of being a remote worker. So naturally, here are some things you can do to step up your remote worker game:

  • Create a dedicated workspace where you can zone in on your work.
  • Establish a routine and stick to it to maintain a sense of structure and balance (the lack of moving from their chairs gets some fed up with the remote life).
  • Leverage technology for effective communication and collaboration with your team! With the right tools, you can get the equivalent of walking over to your work friend’s station to ask how their date went.
  • Embrace the freedom to explore new locations and embrace a nomadic lifestyle if desired! If the type of remote job you have can be done from anywhere, what are you waiting for to book that trip?
  • Personalize your workspace with elements that inspire and motivate you.
  • Participate in virtual meetings and discussions so your coworkers don’t forget you exist. Oh yeah, and it also helps to foster a sense of teamwork and engagement.
